Here's a clever idea: Gift a 5-lb sack of starter flour, all wrapped up in a flour-sack towel with a design of your choosing on it, either in ink or embroidered, along with a copy of Wild Bread. The four corners tied with twine mimic how flour was once sold.

If you'd like to use our Barron Flour Mill flour-sack girl logo, you can find a version (reversed of course) here:

And here is where you'll find our instructions for transferring a design onto a flour-sack towel:

Love the embroidered flour sack. Time to get the needle and thread out. Super idea.

I like to think a hand-embroidered flour-sack towel makes a kitchen. It's the final touch to admire at the end of every day, that and fresh bread on the counter. Oh, and the day's milk in the fridge. And butter, cheese, fresh-daily eggs ...

Lovely Nelle, in true farm life fashion. Just that extra touch that brings warmth to the home.

Very cute idea! My auntie (a farm girl in Washington) does embroidery on flour sack towels and does a coordinated binding around the edge. I am blessed to have one for every day of the week, each with a different chicken scene!

Glad you found them. Who knew!?

When I double-click on the links, the computer immediately sends me back to this page. But you're right MaryJane, the two files are in my Download folder. So happy to have them.
I do really like the idea of the book font on the front of the book.
I have used the Citra Solv method and it does work really well on cotton. Thanks.

Sylvia, Carol said the links worked for her. If they don't work for you, unfortunately, we'll need to have you tell us what happens when you attempt to open them. As it turns out, they didn't work for me because my computer was set up to send them directly to my "downloads folder" and there they sat unbeknownst to me. There are an unbelievable amount of variables in the computer world anymore, so if you can give us a little bit more information, that would be most helpful!

Will do, Sara.

I like the font on the cover very much. I don't have my book yet - won't ship for a couple of weeks so I will defer to you on the design. I do like the bread/wheat idea if it's simple for my embroidery skill.

How about Wild Bread in the font on the front of my book and the drawing of bread and wheat on page 198? If you like that idea, we can work on that this coming week and, ahem, post a link to it that works:)

Fun idea MaryJane.

I bought a half apron and want to embroider Wild Bread on it and was going to do just letters. Do you think you and Carol could come up with something a little more than just letters. I'm into simple farmhouse so don't make it too fancy.

And in fact they aren't but were when Carol first placed them. I will give her a call to see if she can get them working from home today. If not, it might have to wait until Monday. Sweet project though, and worth the wait.

The two links aren't working. Would love to use them.
