Posted - Nov 02 2018 : 11:14:03 AM So today when I poured my mother into my mixing bowl. I forgot to take out the 1/2 cup for the mother for this week. I had already poured the buttermilk and honey in the center of the mother when I remembered. It hadn’t reached the edges yet so my mom (Tracy) took a bunch of teaspoons [each time the back of the spoon would get close and barely touch the buttermilk she could get a new spoon so that the mother wouldn’t have any in it] and was able to pull out almost 1/2 cup of mother without getting the buttermilk in it. I hope it is all ok, I am so forgetful. What should I watch out for in my mother in the next week, to see if it was contaminated? Mold, and bad smell? When will I know if it has gone bad and i need to start over? I know that in the Q&A part of Wildbread that if you get meat juice or egg in your mother it could contaminate it and cause mold and bad smell.
This is how much mother I was able to save without touching the buttermilk.

Posted - Nov 04 2018 : 06:57:56 AM Oh no! I’m glad you were able to save a bit of your mother! In the next week, just keep an eye and nose out for any mold or bad smells. As long as you mother continues to smell as it did before, remains mold free, is bubbling, and raising breads, all should be well. |
